TWICE A CHAMPION

RIMBEY, AB – Trevor Emond, Dwight Kennedy and Kevin Wheeler are the only drivers in Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series history to win multiple season championships. Hoping to be the next driver on that exclusive list is current point leader Darrell Midgley and defending season champion Mark Miller. Miller grabbed his first NPP Series championship at the final race of the season last year in Rimbey, Alberta. Midgley won his first NPP Series championship back in 2009. Midgley currently has a 53 point cushion over Miller with just two races remaining in the 2015 season. Those two races will be run this Friday and Saturday night (Sept. 11th and 12th) at Central Alberta Raceways.

MILLER AND MIDGLEY BOTH LOOKING FOR SECOND NPP SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Miller has the rare opportunity to become just the third driver in NPP Series history to win back to back season championships. “We are excited [about the weekend],” says the driver of the A1 Autobody #69 Chevrolet, “we know we can do well at this track.” The Calgary, Alberta driver scored his first Feature win of the season last month at Central Alberta Raceways. “It’s good to know we can get a good finish [in Rimbey]. Looking forward to this race weekend. Hopefully we can repeat what we did here last time.” Miller has an average Feature finish of 3.3 in four Rimbey starts and will need to run a near perfect weekend if he wants to catch Midgley in the standings. Last season, Midgley swept the season championship weekend in Rimbey, Alberta with back to back Feature wins and finished seventh in the 2014 season points chase. Thanks to five consecutive Feature wins in 2015, the Sidney, British Columbia driver is the current point leader, a position he has held since late June. “Everything has sure gone our way this season,” exclaims the driver of the Integra Tire(Edson) #14 Dodge, “that flat tire in Rimbey last month has been our only hiccup. I’m glad it wasn’t worse.” Midgley has eight starts at Central Alberta Raceways and has an average Feature finish of 6.6. “With the season we’ve had it would be a huge disappointment not to finish where we are in the standings right now.”

KENNEDY, CLARK AND BROUGHTON ARE STILL IN THE 2015 CHAMPIONSHIP HUNT

The Team Kennedy car, which will be driven by Shawn Kennedy this weekend, is 31 points back of Miller in the NPP Series Championship point standings. Just 30 points back of Kennedy, sitting fourth, is Ken Clark. Bruce Broughton, the 2010 NPP Series Champion sits fifth in the standings 101 points back of Clark. Both Broughton, Clark and Kennedy still mathematically have a chance at catching the front runners in the 2015 standings.
