THREE WINNERS, ONE WEEKEND

RIMBEY, AB – Bruce Broughton and Dean Deatherage were the big Feature winners at Central Alberta Raceways on Friday and Saturday night but it was Darrell Midgley taking the top prize. The Sidney, British Columbia driver finished second in the Feature both nights and that gave him the points needed to grab the 2015 Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series Championship. Midgley, who won his first NPP Series Championship in 2009, becomes only the fourth driver in NPP Series history to win more than one championship. “We put a nice string of victories together early in the year,” says the driver of the Integra Tire(Edson) #14 Dodge, “in the end [we raced] smart and did not try to do anything beyond the cars capabilities and just finish.” Midgley set an NPP Series record in 2015 with five consecutive Feature event wins. “It’s an honor to run [in this Series] and a big thanks to Dwight Kennedy for giving me this opportunity. I’ve been pretty fortunate.”

DARRELL MIDGLEY WINS THE 2015 NPP LATE MODEL SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP

Bruce Broughton ended a lengthy winless drought in Rimbey, Alberta on Championship weekend. Friday night, the Stony Plain, Alberta driver got by pole sitter Dean Deatherage and drove to a convincing Feature event win. “Always feels good to win one and it’s been a little while,” said Broughton, “really glad for everybody. [My crew] has been working hard for two years and we finally got another one.” Broughton’s last Feature event win was June 23, 2012 at Central Alberta Raceways. “We almost forgot what it was like to win.” Broughton backed up his Friday night Feature event victory with a third place finish in the Saturday night Feature. The driver of the All Weather Windows/Habitat for Humanity #61 Dodge and NPP Series Champion from 2010 sits fourth in all-time NPP Series Feature event wins with 9 victories.

BRUCE BROUGHTON: FRIDAY NIGHT FEATURE WIN AND 3RD ON SATURDAY NIGHT

After what was an extremely tough season filled with flat tires, wrecks and a blown engine, Dean Deatherage was the class of the field both Friday and Saturday night at Central Alberta Raceways. The Beaumont, Alberta driver won the Heats, plus won the pole position [‘A’ Dash] both nights. On Saturday night the driver of the Scott Safety #18 Dodge held off a hard charging Darrell Midgley in the Feature to claim his first ever NPP Series Feature event.

DEATHERAGE HOLDS OFF MIDGLEY SATURDAY NIGHT FOR FIRST FEATURE WIN

“This has been a long time coming,” says Deatherage, “a huge thanks to Shawn [Kennedy]. He set the car up. It was the fastest car here.” Twenty-four hours earlier Deatherage was denied a second place finish in the Friday night Feature. His car blew a tire with five laps to go. “It feels good to know that I can run with these guys. This was an outstanding weekend. I don’t see why we can’t do this in the future or any other weekend.”
