TEAM NPP DOUBLE PLAY

VICTORIA, BC –  Westshore Motorsports Park hosts its biggest race event of the season this Labor Day Long weekend.  Some of the best Late Model drivers in Western Canada will battle in the 42nd running of the Canada 200.  Jason Frost is ready to fly the Team NPP banner at Western Canada’s premier Late Model race.  “This is like my Daytona 500.  It’s the race I really look forward to.”  Frost ran his first Canada 200 event back in 1991.  His best finish was second in 1997.  This will be Frosts fourth consecutive Canada 200 behind the wheel of the Northern Provincial Pipelines/Westshore Burgers #81 Dodge.  At the 2020 race Frost finished 6th.  “There are over 30 cars registered right now,” says Frost, “there are some new guys that are coming too, so there is a bit of an unknown.”  With a Feature win and five-top-5’s this season, Frost has momentum on his side heading into the two-day show.  “I feel like we can run with anybody right now.  I’m not saying we’re going to blow anybody away but I feel we can hang with just about anybody.”  Frost figures the current Late Model track record that he set back in June, will be reset this weekend.  “I feel like the record (16.436) is going to fall.  Hopefully it’s us again that resets it but if it’s not, that’s fine.”  When it comes to the Saturday nights Heat race and Sunday’s Canada 200, Frost indicates he will continue using a driving line that others tend to avoid.  “We are one of the few cars that have found success on the outside groove.  There is more grip than people think.”  Like last year, the 2021 Canada 200 will be broadcast live on Victoria’s CHEK TV.

For the first time in three-years Team NPP will be competing in two classes at one track. Lane Zerbin will be making his hometown debut in the Northern Provincial Pipelines/Alien Race Cars #81 Modified.  “I’m a little nervous but also glad I can race in front of family and friends.  This is where I grew up.  Honestly it’s where I learned racing.”  Adding to the excitement, Saturday will see Zerbin’s 50th start in a Modified but first official start on pavement.  “I’m not green (as far as racing).  I would say I’m a rookie for pavement though.”  Zerbin had close to 6 hours of practice at Westshore Motorsports Park earlier in the week.  “We made some laps and did a lot of adjustments.  Once we do some practice laps with other cars on the track we’ll get a game plan of where we are sitting with the field.”

The transition from dirt to pavement doesn’t concern Zerbin.  “Being a dirt guy I think I can make something work in the second groove.  They (pavement racers) like to hug the bottom because they think they can’t make the outside work.”  Zerbin will be taking advantage of several on-track practice sessions on Friday and Saturday to dial in his car.  “Hopefully me and Frosty (Jason Frost) can put on a good showing for Dwight Kennedy and NPP this weekend.”
