SAY IT AIN’T SNOW!!

RIMBEY, AB – With more than five centimeters of snow on the ground and a wet weekend weather forecast, track officials at Central Alberta Raceways have cancelled this Saturday and Sunday’s scheduled oval event.  “Officially it’s still summer,” sighs Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series announcer Gord Craig, “but considering how our season has gone it just figures that we’d get a snow out in September.”  Of the ten scheduled races in 2018, the NPP Late Model Series has completed only one event.  “We cancelled our season opener back in May and a June appearance in Edmonton due to low car counts,” admits Craig, “since then everything has really been out of our control.  Bad weather and race tracks cancelling dates (on us) took over from there.”  Drayton Valley Speedway cancelled several race dates due to problems with operating permits.

“Our July race weekend in Edmonton this season was cut short when night one of the Gold Cup race was rained out.”  Craig says the upcoming race in Rimbey was going to be a struggle.  “To be honest, our car count was going to be very weak this weekend.  If we showed up we probably would have been combined with the other fender classes of race cars that are also struggling with car counts this season.”  Central Alberta Raceways announced that they will be rescheduling their snowed out race weekend to October 6th and 7th.  “Not sure if we are going to race on these dates or not yet,” says Craig, “it might be best to just call it a season and start focusing on 2019.”
