ROLLING THE DICE

LAS VEGAS, NV – Coming off a successful test at Western Speedway in Victoria, British Columbia, Darrell Midgley and Team NPP are competing at Las Vegas Motor Speedway this weekend. Midgley debuts his brand new Northern Provincial Pipelines/Alien Race Cars #81 Dodge at the 2017 Senators Cup Fall Classic. The $15,000 to win event is a two-night show feature 100+ mph Super Late Models. While the race car may be new, Midgley is no stranger to “The Bullring.” This is Midgley’s ninth consecutive visit to the 3/8 mile paved oval in Las Vegas since 2009. His best finish in a Super Late Model at Las Vegas was 11th back in 2014. “With the brand new car, our expectations are a lot higher going in,” says the Sidney, BC driver, “the goal is to qualify our way into the Saturday night show.” More than 30 teams will be in the pits fighting for just 24 Saturday night starting spots. Qualifying and Heat races will be run Friday. The last chance race and the Feature are on the schedule for Saturday.

UPDATE: (October 20th @ 8:45pm): New car woes surfaced during the debut of the brand new Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./Alien Race Cars #81 Dodge at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The car handled well but the speed was not there for Canada’s Darrell Midgley during a qualifying session that saw the track record reset twice. The Sidney, British Columbia driver sputtered to a 15.285 second lap time on “The Bullring” 3/8 mile track during qualifying putting him 29th quickest out of 34 cars. Midgley missed his Friday night Heat race due to engine issues and informed track officials he would be going to a back up car for Saturday. The near decade old Super Late Model, which the new car replaced, has been called back into action. Midgley will start at the back of the pack in the ‘B’ Feature/Last Chance race and must finish fourth or better to advance to the 150 lap Senators Cup Fall Classic Feature.

UPDATE: (October 21st @ 6:25pm): Instead of one ‘B’ Feature/Last Chance race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, two were competed on Saturday night. The ‘B’ Features/Last Chance races were made up of drivers who did not finish third or better in the Friday night Heat races. The top 2 cars from each race would transfer to the 150 lap Senators Cup Fall Classic race. Midgley ran as high as third in his 20 lap Last Chance race but fell to fourth in the dying laps. For only the second time since 2009 Midgley failed to qualify for the big race of the night in Las Vegas. Not much time to reflect on the Vegas DNQ as Team NPP heads to Tucson Speedway in Arizona to compete on Saturday night October 28th.
