PACKING IT IN

EDMONTON, AB – Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. has been a proud sponsor and supporter of motorsports in the province of Alberta for over twenty years.  Head to the dirt track at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta and one will clearly see the ‘support’ end of the sponsorship spectrum.  Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. owns a fleet of ten classic Dodge Ramchargers, eight have been designated for race track use.  Whether it be ‘packing’ the freshly watered dirt track, push starting a 700 horsepower open wheel Sprint Car or bump starting a Stock Car or Modified that has lost power, NPP has provided this vital piece of equipment to the Edmonton track for well over a decade.

“We try to help out where ever we can,” says Dwight Kennedy, owner of Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd., “if it helps with the show for the fans that’s good.  If it gives race teams extra time to prep their cars for the night [instead of packing the track] that’s good too.”  The NPP Late Model made its debut in Edmonton back in 1999.  The red Dodge Ramchargers made their appearance about a year later and have been a familiar part of the Edmonton racing landscape ever since.

NPP PACK/PUSH TRUCKS IN RIMBEY, ALBERTA

Back in 2005, the NPP Late Model Series christened the dirt oval at Central Alberta Raceways.  To aid in their track prep and race day operations, two red NPP Dodge Ramchargers have been stationed in Rimbey, Alberta since the Series debut.  Sometimes however there is the unfortunate task of having to retrieve pack trucks.  “Picking up the two Dodges that we had down in Lethbridge was not fun,” admits Kennedy, “sure miss racing there.”  Bridge County Raceway in Lethbridge, Alberta closed its doors at the end of the 2011 season.  “If they [Lethbridge] were to announce that they were re-opening again, we’d have two pack trucks loaded up and headed south in the morning.”  The NPP pack/push trucks will be extremely busy the end of August.  The NPP Late Model Series race in Rimbey, Alberta along with Modifieds and Stock Cars Friday and Saturday, August 21st and 22nd.  The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series touches down in Edmonton on Friday and Saturday August 28th and 29th.
