OUT OF TUNE

EDMONTON, AB. – Castrol Raceway officials have announced that the Oval test ‘n’ tune, scheduled for Saturday, April 27th has been cancelled. New track oval director Rome Awde made the announcement on Monday. “Because of weather conditions beyond our control and large amounts of snow still on the ground [at the track], the oval test and tune is cancelled.” Record snowfall and below normal temperatures have plagued Northern and Central Alberta for the past several weeks.

Awde indicates he is keeping his fingers crossed that the facility will be ready to go for its scheduled May 4th season opening race. “If it stops snowing we hope to have the track ready to go. If possible we are going to try to open the track several hours early [on May 4th] for a brief test ‘n’ tune session.” This mini test ‘n’ tune session would only be open to classes racing at Castrol Raceway’s season opener.

The NPP Late Model Series is not scheduled to run in Edmonton on May 4th. With less snow on the ground than Castrol Raceway, track officials at Central Alberta Raceways are currently considering adding an oval test ‘n’ tune date on Saturday, May 11th. The Rimbey, Alberta facility is already making their oval track available for NPP Late Model Series testing on Saturday, May 25th. Central Alberta Raceway holds their first scheduled event of the season (Mud Bogs) on Saturday and Sunday, May 4th and 5th.
