NOT ‘ROC’ SOLID

EDMONTON, AB – The date was set however the complete driver line-up could not be solidified. The Race of Champions/Stars of NASCAR event scheduled for Friday, July 24th at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton has been cancelled. “I got the phone call this morning [Thursday],” exclaims Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series announcer Gord Craig, “this has been a highlight event for the Series and for our race teams the past two seasons.”

STOP WORK ORDER ON THE WALTRIP CAR FOR THE 2015 ROC EDMONTON RACE

Two-time Daytona 500 Champion Michael Waltrip was one of the drivers planning a return visit to Edmonton as a NPP Series guest driver. “Michael really enjoyed his visits to Edmonton and was looking forward to racing here again this year.” The first two ROC/Stars of NASCAR events were held on a Wednesday night. “Moving the race date from a Wednesday to a Friday night created some driver availability issues.” Kenny Schrader, who won the first two ROC events in 2013 and 2014, was unavailable for this year’s event. “Kenny had an ARCA race scheduled for Indianapolis on July 24th. He was extremely disappointed that he would not be able to race with us this year.”

WALLACE AND SCHRADER BATTLE AT 2014 ROC EVENT IN EDMONTON

Kenny Wallace, Sterling Marlin and Dave Blaney have also competed in the previous ROC events at Castrol Raceway. “Kenny Wallace, who finished third at last year’s event, is working more NASCAR events in the broadcast booth for FOX Sports. A weekend appearance from him was impossible.” The cancelled July 24th race date in Edmonton leaves a gaping hole in the middle of the 2015 race season for NPP Series drivers. “We are working on filling this gap,” says Craig, “we’ll figure something out.”
