MISSION TO MERRITT

MERRITT, BC. – The Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series makes its British Columbia debut this summer at Merritt Speedway on August 4th and 5th. On Saturday, May 19th, NPP Series officials were special guests at the track’s 2012 season opener. “We wanted to see the facility in person under race conditions,” says NPP Series announcer Gord Craig, “it was a real good show for their first race event of the season.”

Craig notes the Merritt Speedway water truck made a couple of appearances Saturday afternoon to keep moisture in the track. “I thought track conditions were exceptional, even though the race was run during the heat of the day. The clay racing surface was very smooth. NPP Series drivers will be very happy with the racing surface here.”

This is Merritt Speedway’s 21st season of operation. “There were no delays to start the show either,” adds Craig, “the race was advertised as a 2:00pm start. Race fans and race teams got a 2:00pm start.” Craig says the August long weekend race is a can’t miss event. “The Series debut is going to be huge for stock car race fans in southern British Columbia and of course for Merritt Speedway and the City of Merritt. It’s going to be a history making event for our Series too.” This will be the first time a NPP Series Championship points event has been held in the province of British Columbia. “Bringing big league racing to smaller race facilities is just part of what the NPP Series is about. We want this event to be fun and successful for everyone involved.”

The media/public relations director of Merritt Speedway says the track is already counting down to the NPP Late Model Series inaugural visit on August 4th and 5th. “This race event will allow us to showcase our track,” says Lonnie Boszko, “we do have invitational events here that attracts drivers from different racing series. To have the NPP Series compete here [at Merritt Speedway] brings us to a new level.”
