LOOKING FOR MODIFIED MOJO

ELMA, WA– Grays Harbor Raceway hosts the 20th annual Shipwreck Beads Modified Nationals this Friday and Saturday night.  Lane Zerbin will be making his fifth consecutive appearance at the Nationals.  “It’s one of the big races of the year,” says the driver of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./C-Force Marine #81 Modified, “it’s a prestige race more than anything for us.”  Forty to fifty Modified race teams, from all over the Pacific Northwest, will jam the pits in Elma, Washington this weekend.  “Hopefully I can keep all four wheels going in the same direction this weekend and have some luck on our side.”  Last weekend Zerbin finished 12th at Grays Harbor Raceway.  That was his best finish since grabbing the runner-up spot back on June 15th.  Since that second place showing Zerbin has an average Feature finish of 15.8.  “We haven’t really had any major mechanical issues,” indicates Zerbin, “it’s either just driver error or getting caught up in someone else’s melee.”  Zerbin finished 6th in the big Feature at last year’s Modified Nationals.  He finished 5th at the same race in 2017.

ZERBIN IN SEARCH OF STRONG WEEKEND IN WASHINGTON

“If I can get in the top-8 for the Saturday night redraw (starting lineup) we’ll see where it all ends up.”  The journey of getting into the top-8 begins on Friday night.  “There are two Heat races.  Starting in the middle of the pack for both Heats is beneficial because of passing points.”  Even if Zerbin doesn’t crack the top-8, locking himself into the Saturday night Feature is next on the priority list.  From points earned in the Friday night Heat races, the top-18 drivers are automatically locked into the 24 car ‘A’ Feature.  “Saturday is going to be a 40 lap race.  If you are starting in the top 10 or top 12 you are a threat to win it.  If we can get that luck we’ll have a good showing.”  Due to the number of cars expected ‘B’ and ‘C’ Mains will also be run Saturday night to fill the final 6 spots in the ‘A’ Feature starting lineup.  Zerbin wants to avoid running any ‘extra’ races and transfer directly to the big race.
