IRONING OUT THE WRINKLES

EDMONTON, AB – It still may be seven long months away but Castrol Raceway is already preparing itself for the 2011 Oval season. The home track of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series (since 2001) is currently receiving a facility facelift. Heavy equipment was moved in just before the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

“We are in the process of putting more slope on the front and back stretch of Castrol Raceway’s oval track,” says project co-ordinator Bob Michaud from Prowler Contracting in Nisku, Alberta, “we will also be adding more clay to the racing surface.”

The re-banking of the front and rear straights of the oval is not the only area of the racing facility which is getting attention. “The oval infield, the pit area and the parking lot will also be worked on by the crew.”

WORK BEGINS ON OVAL PITS AND SPECTATOR PARKING LOT

If the mild fall weather continues, Castrol Raceway officials indicate they hope that the major facelift for the 20 year old facility is completed by the end of October.
