HODGSON TO RACE NPP LATE MODEL AT GOLD CUP

EDMONTON, AB – The Hodgson name will be represented in two race classes at Gold Cup 2006 this Friday and Saturday night at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway.  As St. Albert’s Jeff Hodgson campaigns his 130mph Sprint Car, his older brother Ryan will make his racing debut in a 100mph Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model.  “It was the weirdest thing,” says Ryan Hodgson, “I was driving home after work on Monday and my cell phone rings and its Dwight Kennedy on the other end.  His question was short and sweet – Do you want to try out a Late Model this weekend?  You don’t get a chance like this very often so I jumped at it!”  Kennedy was a spectator at Castrol Raceway on Saturday night and took keen interest in Hodgson’s driving style in the Bud Super Stock class.  “I found out that he’s raced Quads and Go-Carts before,” adds Kennedy, ”so the reflexes are there.  I hope he has fun and does well but not too well.”  Kennedy is riding a 3 race winning streak heading into the Gold Cup weekend.  “I’m scared (expletive) right now,” laughs the resident of Callihoo, Alberta, “I want to do well because this is the biggest Oval event of the year.”  There’s no turning back for Hodgson now, Gold Cup 2006 is less than a week away.  “I may have to ask my little brother (Jeff) for some advice on nerves!”
