DRAYTON VALLEY DRYING

DRAYTON VALLEY, AB. – June has been a tough month for track management at Drayton Valley Speedway. Two weekends ago massive rains wiped out part of their oval race weekend. Last week the Brazeau County region was blasted by yet another storm. This was the tipping point of just how much water the facility could take. “The oval is a bit of mess,” admits track president Brandon Murray, “parts of the front straight sank about eighteen inches due to all the rain.” Murray says the work required to bring the oval back to race ready condition will take some time. “My guess right now is about a hundred hours, who knows, maybe more.”

Drayton Valley Speedway is hosting a two-day mud bog event this Canada Day long weekend (July 1 & 2). “This show is not affected,” says Murray, “it’s going to be a good show and a fun weekend here.” The massive amount of rainfall in June has had pumps working overtime at Drayton Valley Speedway. “Last week the pumps were probably going non-stop. Ironically we also had to pump water out of the mud pits because they were too full.”

MUD PITS WILL BE BUSY THIS CANADA DAY LONG WEEKEND

Unfortunately one scheduled race next month has fallen victim due to the extensive damage on the oval track. “We were going to have a one-day sprint car race on July 23rd. Everyone was looking forward to this race. We’ve had to cancel. Safety comes first and we can’t rush repairs.” At this point the July 29th /30th race dates at Drayton Valley Speedway are unaffected by the oval restoration which begins after the long weekend. “The goal is to be back racing on the oval the end of July.” The NPP Late Model Series has scheduled a two-day show at Drayton Valley Speedway on August 26th and 27th.
