DOUBLE DOWN IN VEGAS

LAS VEGAS, NV. – The Canadian race season may be over but that does not stop Canadians from seeking out race events south of the border. For the sixth year in a row, Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series competitor Darrell Midgley headed south to the bright lights of Las Vegas, Nevada the final weekend of October. The annual Fall Classic took place at Las Vegas Motor Speedway featuring the $10,000 to win Super Late Model event and the $2,500 to win Late Model event. For the second year in a row the Sidney, British Columbia driver played the odds by running in both pavement Late Model classes. Although there was no trip to victory lane in Las Vegas, Midgley was the top Canadian finisher in both Late Model features on Saturday night.

“Finished 11th in the Super Late Model feature and 10th in the Late Model feature,” exclaims the 2009 NPP Series Champion, “it’s not easy doing this [running two classes]. Hats off to my crew and all their hard work this weekend.” Doing the double at last year’s Fall Classic event, Midgley did not qualify for the Super Late Model feature but grabbed a podium finish [3rd] in the Late Model feature. Saturday nights 150 lap Super Late Model feature started off on a scary note with a wild rollover on lap 3. “Managed to miss this one [crash] but with the amount of money on the line it wasn’t surprising that the aggressive driving started early in this race.” Midgley has raced in Las Vegas a total of seven times since 2002. “We’ve blown engines, crashed and had some decent finishes here.” On Friday night Midgley qualified 14th [out of 21 cars] and then won his Heat race in the Late Model class. In the Super Late Model class, Midgley qualified 22nd [out of 39 cars] and finished 6th in the Heat. Midgley wrapped up the 2014 NPP Late Model Series with back to back Feature wins ‘on the dirt’ at Central Alberta Raceways in Rimbey. The strong finish gave Midgley a 7th place finish in the NPP Series Championship point standings.
