CHEERING THE OUTLAWS
EDMONTON, AB. – The World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series made their annual stop at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway on the weekend. Close to a dozen NPP Late Model Series race teams were in attendance Friday and Saturday night cheering on their favorite Sprint Car drivers. “Steve Kinser is my guy,” says Whitecourt Alberta’s Kevin Wheeler, “he’s just a down to earth kind of guy. He’s out there racing having a good time and making a living at it too.” Kinser finished 11th and 7th in the Oil City Cup Features. Stony Plain Alberta’s Mike Tom was split as to who he was rooting for both nights. “I wanted the local guys do well. At the same time I wanted to see Jason Meyers in victory lane.”

Meyers won Friday nights Feature race and finished 4th on Saturday night. Sherwood Park’s Sean Moran was the top finishing local driver in the Friday nights Feature (14th). Leduc’s Casey Adams finished 16th in Saturday nights Feature.

Bruce Broughton’s favorite driver has a connection to NASCAR. “I’m a huge Kasey Kahne fan and anything connected with him, I’m right there.” Joey Saldana drives for Kasey Kahne racing. After sweeping last year’s event at Castrol Raceway, Saldana was the early favorite heading into the 2010 event. Unfortunately Saldana crashed out of the Feature on Friday night and finished 19th. It was a major turnaround for Saldana on Saturday night.

The Brownsburg, Indiana driver raced to victory in an incredible Feature to claim his second consecutive Oil City Cup championship. “I’m sure glad Joey Saldana won,” adds Broughton, “it capped off an excellent weekend of racing.”
