CASTROL RACEWAY CANCELS FIRST RACE OF THE SEASON

EDMONTON, AB (May 5) – The 2007 season opener of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series has been cancelled due to weather. Although the sun shone for most of the day Saturday, heavy rain on Thursday and Friday partially flooded the oval track at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway. Officials at the track had no other option but to cancel the May 5th race event. “This is the 3rd time in the past 4 seasons the first race of the year has been affected by the weather in Edmonton,” indicates NPP tour announcer Gord Craig, “I remember a few years ago we actually had snow start to fall halfway through a race.” The next scheduled event for the NPP Series is on the May long weekend at Drumheller’s new Hidden Valley Motorsports Park. “This race event will be the season opener now,” adds Craig, “this will also be the first back to back race weekend of the season for Series teams. The pressure will definitely be on. No one in the Series has ever raced at Drumheller before. Whoever adapts to this new track the quickest and stays out of trouble will be the early season point’s leader.”
