BIG WINS FOR MIDGLEY & MILLER

RIMBEY, AB – Friday nights rainout at Central Alberta Raceways set the stage for a wild Saturday night event where point leader Darrell Midgley saw his amazing winning streak continue and then come to a dramatic halt on the same night.  Two Feature events would be run the same race night for only the second time in the 15 year history of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series.  In the first NPP Series Feature, Midgley would muscle his way from the number six starting spot to second in just four laps.  Midgley took over the lead from Edson, Alberta’s Ken Clark at the halfway point of the Feature and drove to victory claiming his fifth consecutive Feature event win of 2015.

FEATURE #1: MIDGLEY TAKES OVER THE LEAD IN RIMBEY

The win for Midgley set a brand new NPP Series record for consecutive Feature wins in a single season.  “We’ve had a lot of bad luck over the years but things really are going our way right now.  Nice to have this record as well.”  The original record of 4 consecutive Feature wins in a single season was set back in 2004 by three-time NPP Series Champion Trevor Emond.  Midgley’s victory, in his Integra Tire (Edson) #14 Dodge, also re-set another consecutive win streak record.  His victory was his seventh consecutive NPP Series Feature win dating back to last season’s September weekend sweep at Central Alberta Raceways.  “It’s a tough track to figure out,” exclaims Midgley, “you never know what it’s going to throw at you.”  This was Midgley’s 10th Feature event win in NPP Series competition moving him into the number four spot on the all-time NPP Series Feature win list.

BRUCE BROUGHTON SAT ON THE POLE FOR BOTH SATURDAY NIGHT FEATURES

In the second Feature, defending season champion Mark Miller took over the race lead from pole sitter Bruce Broughton on lap two.  The Calgary, Alberta driver then had to contend with a hard charging Midgley near the halfway point of the Feature.  Midgley’s cars however developed a major handling problem thanks to a tire going soft.  Midgley slowed his pace as the tire eventually went flat.  Miller pulled away from the field in his A1 Autobody #69 Chevrolet and grabbed his first Feature win of the season gaining ground on Midgley in the NPP Series Championship point standings.

FEATURE #2: DOMINATING AND MUCH NEEDED VICTORY FOR MILLER

“It was nice to get a good finish finally [in Rimbey].  It was unfortunate for Darrell to get a flat tire but the bounces went our way tonight and we got a victory.”  Miller finished second in the opening Feature to Midgley.  With his strong night on the track, the defending season champion sits 53 points back of Midgley with two races to go in the 2015 season.  Shawn Kennedy, filling in for his dad Dwight in the NPP #81 Dodge, finished third and second in the two NPP Series Features Saturday night.  Both Kennedy and Miller were the only drivers to finish on the podium in both of the Rimbey, Alberta Features.  Next race for the NPP Late Model Series is back at Central Alberta Raceways for Season Championship weekend on September 12th and 13th.
