BEAULIEU EYES CHAMPIONSHIP THIS WEEKEND

EDMONTON, AB – With just four scheduled race events left this season, the $100,000 Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series could see history made this long holiday weekend in Lethbridge, Alberta.  Jason Beaulieu is poised to become the first British Columbia based driver to ever win an NPP Series championship.  “It would be neat to clinch it this weekend,” says Beaulieu, “we won in Lethbridge the last time we raced there (July 21st).  After that particular race I think it was the first time all season we as a team spoke openly that maybe we can win this thing.  So to win it in Lethbridge would be a nice touch.”  Beaulieu has been the Series point leader in the All Weather Windows sponsored #46 Dodge since winning the season opening race in Drumheller back in May.  “I have had many breaks go my way this year, I’ll admit that.  I’ve been in the right place at the right time but that’s all part of racing.”  While Beaulieu has led the points since day one, he has had five different drivers behind him occupying second in the standings.  “Jason knows I am not going to give up,” says defending season champion Dwight Kennedy, “he mathematically can’t clinch it the first night and I am going to make sure I am in front of him the second night.”  Kennedy currently sits 270 points behind Beaulieu in the standings and is coming off back to back wins in Edmonton.  The Edson, Alberta driver is currently sitting second in the point standings for the second time this year.  “Losing the transmission while leading in Lethbridge really set us back.  We went from second to fifth because of that and we’ve been fighting hard ever since to get back to the front.”  Last years NPP Series rookie of the year admits catching Beaulieu is going to be tough task but says his team is ready for the challenge.  “We’ve have had one of the faster cars this season,” says Kevin Clark, “the set up has been there every night but we have had some bad luck at the wrong time.”  The Altario Alberta driver who sits third in points has been as high as second in the standings.  Clark also won his first ever feature race in Okotoks back in July.  “This weekend’s the goal is pretty simple.  We have to finish ahead of Jason and Dwight if we want to be in the running for the Championship in Edmonton the end of September.” This will be the third and fourth visit of the NPP Late Model Series to Bridge County Raceway in Lethbridge and first ever two-night show.  Dwight Kennedy and Jason Beaulieu won the previous Feature events.
