ARIZONA APPEARANCE

AVONDALE, AZ – DJ Kennington will provide Canadian content to the big NASCAR race at ISM Raceway (formally Phoenix International Raceway) this weekend in Arizona.  Kennington will drive the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd/Clark Construction #96 Toyota in the Ticket Guardian 500 on Sunday.  The car is prepared out of the Canadian owned Gaunt Brothers Racing shop based in Mooresville, North Carolina.  “We have a brand new car which has just been put together.  Hopefully we put on a good show.”

Kennington is coming off a 24th place finish at the Daytona 500 last month.  This was Kennington’s best ever finish in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in only his fourth start.  Since 2006, Kennington has raced in all four of NASCAR’s racing divisions at the Arizona facility.  “Really comfortable at Phoenix,” exclaims the St. Thomas, Ontario driver, “I’ve had plenty of opportunity to run there which really helps.”  This will be Kenningtons 21st appearance in Phoenix.  “If you have told me ten years ago that we’d have that many starts at this track I’d say you were crazy.  Just very fortunate and lucky to have Dwight (Kennedy) and Kevin (Clark) support me and my program when we go to Phoenix.  It’s great to have them on board again.  Without them I’d probably have zero starts in Phoenix.”  Alberta based Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. and Clark Construction have been major sponsors of Kennington in Phoenix for several years.  Kennington finished 26th at the Phoenix race last November.  “The race team is getting better and we’re getting better.  If we can grab a few extra spots (this weekend), that would be fantastic.”  Kennington hits the track for practice on Friday morning in preparation for afternoon qualifying.  Two practice sessions are scheduled for Saturday.  The big race goes Sunday.
