A RACE FOR THE HISTORY BOOKS

VICTORIA, BC – Team NPP’s Darrell Midgley and Jason Frost competed in the final Canada 200 race at Westshore Motorsports Park (formerly Western Speedway) on the weekend.  Midgley drove the Northern Provincial Pipelines/AMS Engines #81 Dodge to a 4th place finish on Sunday night.  Frost was credited with a 24th place finish after retiring from the race on Lap 121.  For the first 50-laps of the Feature, Midgley was running second after starting in the 4th position.  Frost made incredible gains early in the race moving from his 7th starting position up to 3rd within 15-laps.  On lap-25 overheating problems began plaguing the Northern Provincial Pipelines/The Keg Steakhouse #81F Dodge.  “Something was up with our car tonight,” sighs Frost, “we had some overheating issues and that kept sending us to the back.”  Frost drove to the pits twice (Lap 36 & 57) during caution flags so crews could fill the radiator with water.  “We had a pretty good car early.  At the beginning we were hanging in there.  It was not our night.”

OVERHEATING PROBLEMS ENDED FROSTS NIGHT IN THE CANADA 200.

Midgley meanwhile had one of his strongest Late Model performances in recent memory.  The Sidney, British Columbia driver was running either second or third for just over 100-laps.  Midgley and eventual Canada 200 winner # 5 Korbin Thomas traded spots several times before the halfway point of the race.  “Yes that was a battle,” exclaims Midgley, “we had a really good car for the first 100.  We made some adjustments on it to try to make it better (for the second 100-laps) and it just didn’t work out our way.”  On Lap 162 Midgley dropped out of the top-5 for the first time.  Midgley lost a few more positions by Lap 172.  Some timely late-race cautions worked in Midgley’s favor which allowed a charge back to the front.  “We really, really worked at it.  At the end of the day we just weren’t good enough.  It doesn’t mean were were going to give up.”  Midgley won back-to-back Canada 200 events in 1998 and 99.  He’s also recorded numerous top-5’s and top 10 finishes.  “Its been a good race for us.  A lot of history there.  Sad to see this was the last one.”

TWO-TIME CANADA 200 CHAMPION MIDGLEY FINISHED 4TH SATURDAY NIGHT

The final Canada 200 saw 34 cars take the green flag.  A total of 20 caution flags flew for several multi car spins and on-track incidents.  Only 16-cars completed the race.  The first Canada 200 race was held back in 1972.  Sadly the 2022 Canada 200 is the last to be held at Westshore Motorsports Park.  The track is closing its doors the end of September.  Team NPP would like to congratulate Langley, BC’s Korbin Thomas for winning the final Canada 200 race.
