A DECENT RETURN

ELMA, WA –  Team NPP’s Lane Zerbin grabbed a 12th place finish in the Saturday night ‘A’ Feature event at Grays Harbor Raceway.  The Elma, Washington track was hosting the 26th annual Modified Nationals.  This was the first time that Zerbin has been behind the wheel of his Northern Provincial Pipelines/C-Force Marine #81 IMCA Modified in over 340-days.  “We didn’t do too bad,” exclaims the Victoria, British Columbia driver, “all the top teams were here.  Most of the guys in the field have probably already run 30-events this year.”  A total of 46 IMCA Modified Teams were in the pits.

Two qualifying Heats were run Friday night.  The top-18 drivers from points earned in the Heats, were locked into Saturday night’s 24-car ‘A’ Main event.  In his first Heat race Zerbin spun while battling for second.  “Had to go to the back but got back up to fourth.  It (spin) may have been nerves or trying too hard to get that second spot back.  Maybe a bit of both.”  In his second Heat race of the night Zerbin was near flawless and finished second.  “Much better run.  Car handled well.”  Some time passed before all the Heat race points were calculated.  “I kinda figured that we were locked in.”  Zerbin was a bit surprised to see where he finished.  “I really didn’t think we were 10th!  It was definitely a relief not having to run any of those ‘B’ Mains.”  The Feature was hard fought.  Zerbin spent a little time running in the top-10.  He crossed the line in 12th.  “We just missed the setup.  The car was a little tight for the Feature.”  Zerbin is unsure when he’ll be racing next.  “One day shows are out of the picture right now,” admits Zerbin, “we’re only looking at Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday shows.”
