BACK TO THE TRACK

VICTORIA, BC – Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington hosts the 26th annual Modified Nationals this weekend.  Team NPP driver Lane Zerbin will be behind the wheel of the Northern Provincial Pipelines, C-Force Marine #81 IMCA Modified on Friday and Saturday night.  It’s been just over 11-months since Zerbin last competed in a race.  “Life just kinda took over late last year,” indicates Zerbin, “my dad (Ted) was having some health issues and I was also building a house.  It was time to take a break from racing.”  With the home 90% complete and his father (also his crew chief) completely recovered, it was time to go racing again. “I’ve missed it,” admits the Victoria, British Columbia driver, “I’m excited to get behind the wheel again.”

ZERBINS MODIFIED READY TO RACE THIS WEEKEND

Zerbin has only been to a race track once in the past 340 days.  “I went to Skagit last month (June 14) to help out Graham Cooke (with his IMCA Modified).  It was nice to be at a track again.”  Zerbin says the start to his race season this year is a little different than in past years.  “Usually we like to get a few races in before we head to the Nationals.  I’ve got high hopes we can make the ‘A’ Main (Saturday night).  Need to run good in both Heats (Friday night) and stay out of the ‘B’ Main.

On Friday night a Race of Champions event will be run.  It’s a special race reserved for top IMCA drivers the past several seasons.  “The last few years they (track officials) have been asking guys to run this race.  If there are not enough cars we’ll run it.  If there are guys more deserving to be in it, we’ll sit and watch the Main.”  Zerbin’s best finish in a Race of Champions event was 6th recorded last year.  His best Modified Nationals finish was 5th at the 2017 event.  He finished 16th at last year’s Nationals after a late race tire puncture.
