SEASON STARTER SMASHUP

ALGER, WA –  A disastrous start to the 2024 race season for Team NPP’s Lane Zerbin at Skagit Speedway.  On Lap-2 of the Saturday night Feature, the Victoria, British Columbia driver was involved in a 2-car wreck.  Damage to the Northern Provincial Pipelines/C-Force Marine #81 Modified was extensive.  “The car is going to need a front clip for sure,” sighs Zerbin, “we’ll take a look at it back in the race shop.  Hopefully it’s not the center section or its 2022 all over again.”  Two seasons ago, a fiery crash at Oregon’s Cottage Grove Speedway wrote-off Zerbins previous dirt Modified.  This was Zerbins 9th appearance at Skagit Speedway since 2015.  Zerbin had an average Feature finish of 5.7 in three appearances in 2023.  On Saturday night he was credited with a 19th place DNF finish.

Zerbin has now registered two DNF finishes at the Alger, Washington track.  Ironically both DNF’s have taken place on Saturday, May 11th.  His first DNF was in 2019, where he was credited with an 18th place finish.  “Don’t want to do this too many times.  I was actually happy with the car (Saturday night).  We had it a bit too loose in hot laps so we tightened it up for the Heat.”  Zerbin finished 4th in his Saturday night Heat race.  “It was still a bit loose so we tightened up the car for the Feature.”  At the drop of the green Zerbin made early gains but those gains were short lived when another car drove up the track and collected Zerbin.  “It was like a California lane change with no signal.”  Next scheduled race for Zerbin is at Grays Harbor Raceway on May 25th and 26th.

RACE ENDED ON LAP 2 SATURDAY NIGHT

DAMAGE UPDATE (May 13): After unloading the car back at the Alien Race Cars shop in Victoria, British Columbia, Lane Zerbin and father Ted had an opportunity to check out his damaged #81 Modified.  The damage is not as severe as first thought.  “It’s just bolt-on, right front suspension parts,” explains a relieved Zerbin, “luckily it took the blow and it didn’t tweak the frame rails or the front clip.  The car will be good to go after repairs.”  Next race for Zerbin with be his first appearance of 2024 at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.  Its the Modified Clash weekend on Saturday/Sunday, May 25th/26th.
