FANTASTIC FROST
VICTORIA, BC – The year was 1996 (August) and Jason Frost was standing in victory lane at Western Speedway. He also clinched the 1996 Late Model season championship at his home track. Fast forward twenty-five years and Jason Frost was back in victory lane once again at the Victoria, BC facility. Frost held off a hard charging Rory Smith and piloted the Northern Provincial Pipelines/Westshore Burgers #81 Dodge to victory in the second of two 50-lap Features at Westshore Motorsports Park (formerly Western Speedway). Frost kicked off the night qualifying the Team NPP Late Model in the number 1 spot. Frost won his Heat race and then drove to a third-place finish in the first 50-lap Feature. “It was a great night,” says Frost who also congratulated Smith on his 2021 Keg Late Model Series championship, “Rory is running in a different dimension right now in the long runs. He’s a beast. We were lucky enough to keep him behind us for most of this race.”
The Saturday night win for Frost was not without a bit of controversy. “We ended up having a small (on-track) dispute over real estate near the end.” With 6 laps to go Frost and Smith came together. “We were just racing really hard at the end. We both didn’t fit into the same spot.” Smith got out of shape but still managed a second place finish. “He dominated the first 50-lap Feature,” admits Frost, “Rory just checked out.” While Smith was leading the field, Frost and Brandon Carlson battled hard for second. “Brandon and I had a great race.” Heading into the night, Carlson was second in The Keg Championship standings just 15 points ahead of Frost. “Brandon is incredibly hard to pass. I tried him. I tested him. I pushed him. He did not bend.”
JASON FROST RETURNS TO VICTORY LANE IN VICTORIA
Just two big events remain on the 2021 Team NPP Late Model schedule. Jason Frost begins preparation for back to back race weekends. The Canada 200 race at Westshore Motorsports Park runs September 4th and 5th. The Vancouver Island 150 is scheduled for Saratoga Speedway (Courteney, BC) on September 10th and 11th.
