DOLLARS AND SENSE

EDMONTON, AB – Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series race teams, along with race teams from other divisions, will have to dig a little deeper into their pockets when competing on Castrol Raceway’s 3/8 mile oval track this season. In a surprise announcement, track officials in Edmonton have boosted its back gate fees for drivers by 20%. Car and driver admission for the 2015 season is now $60.00. Crew admission rates were spared the increase and will remain at $20.00. Although no time-line was given, Castrol Raceway officials indicate that some of the back gate fee increase will go towards major repairs to the oval track catch fencing. A new speaker system will also be installed in the competitor pit area. Track officials also announced that spectator restroom facilities in the main concourse will be upgraded. Several years ago, spectators at Castrol Raceway saw oval admission prices jump by 33%. Edmonton track officials call this latest increase a reflection on the new realities. Those realities include price increases in materials, maintenance and labor, along with cost of facility improvements.
