WASHINGTON WEEKEND WRAP

ELMA/ROCHESTER, WA – Two Team NPP drivers were racing at two tracks in Washington State on Saturday.  Lane Zerbin was competing at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington in the Northern Provincial Pipelines/C-Force Marine #81 Modified.  Darrell Midgley was behind the wheel of the Northern Provincial Pipelines #81 Dodge at South Sound Speedway in Rochester, Washington.

Zerbin was hoping to have a great outing at Grays Harbor Raceway.  Unfortunately that did not happen!!  There were 27 IMCA Modifieds in the pits for the County Fair race.  Four Heat races were run with the Top-4 cars from each Heat automatically transferring to the ‘A’ Feature.  Zerbin was running 4th in Heat 3 when his right rear tire went flat forcing him to pit.  The Victoria, British Columbia driver would have to run the ‘B’ Feature and transfer himself into the ‘A’ with a strong finish.  Zerbin started at the back of the pack.  On the second lap, Zerbin came into contact with another car.  The on-track collision broke a tie rod knocking him out of the race.  Zerbin was credited with an 11th place finish in the ‘B’ Feature.  The last time Zerbin did not qualify for an ‘A’ Feature event in his IMCA Modified was back on July 27th, 2019 also at Grays Harbor Raceway.

ZERBIN AT GRAYS HARBOR RACEWAY SATURDAY

With the night over early, Zerbin and his father Ted, drove 40-minutes to South Sound Speedway where Team NPP driver Darrell Midgley was competing.  The Sidney, British Columbia driver was competing in the WeCanHelp.org 200 Super Late Model race.

DARRELL MIDGLEY AT SOUTH SOUND SPEEDWAY

With a lap-time of 14.249 seconds (-.417), Midgley kicked off the race event qualifying the Northern Provincial Pipelines #81 Dodge in the 17th spot (out of 21 cars).  In the 200-lap race Midgley bided his time and methodically made his way towards the front of the pack.  By staying out of trouble and saving his tires Midgley finished 7th.  This was Midgley’s first appearance at the Rochester, Washington facility in 5-seasons.  He finished 5th in his last visit to South South Speedway (July 3, 2019).

SIDENOTE: Kyle Cottam, the only other Canadian (Victoria, BC) in the Super Late Model field, finished 10th on Saturday night.
