TRACK TUSSLES IN TUCSON

TUCSON, AZ – The first race weekend of the 2022 season is in the books for Team Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd.  Brandon Carlson drove the Team NPP #81C Dodge to a 9th place finish Sunday afternoon at Tucson Speedway.  This was Carlson’s best ever Chilly Willy finish.  Unfortunately his team-mate Darrell Midgley did not see the checkered flag in his Team NPP #81 Dodge.  Midgley was taken out in a two-car crash with 80-laps to go and was credited with a 24th place finish (originally reported as 23rd) .

CARLSON FINISHED 9TH IN THE 2022 CHILLY WILLY

“We kept grinding away,” says Carlson, “the race car was pretty good.”  In the Friday night and Saturday afternoon preliminary 50-lap Features, Carlson registered 9th and 11th place finishes.  “The track is tough to keep on top of because it changes so much from day to night.  This weekend is definitely something to build off of for sure.”  Carlson’s afternoon nearly came to an end with 6-laps to go when several cars came together down the front straight.  Carlson clipped one of the spinning cars.  “We got a little bit of front end damage.  Bent our front bumper up a little bit but that’s it.”  His teammate was not so lucky in Sunday’s big race.

MIDGLEY WAS HAVING A GREAT WEEKEND UNTIL LAP 80 OF THE CHILLY WILLY

Darrell Midgley was running in and out of the top-10 for most of the race.  Just past the halfway point he was rammed from behind by another driver.  Both cars went into the wall.  “This kinda sucked,” sighs Midgley, “it was a hard hit.  Rung my bell really good.”  Up until the crash Midgley was fairly pleased with his performance Sunday afternoon.  “We were good.  I think we ran as high as 6th at one point in this race.  Don’t think we had the winning car though.”  Midgley kicked off the race weekend with 8th and 6th place finishes in the preliminary 50-lap Features.  This was the second time Midgley has not finished a Chilly Willy event due to no fault of his own.  He was taken out on lap 1 of the 2019 race.

DAMAGE TO THE CARLSON AND MIDGLEY RACE CARS

Midgley’s #81 Dodge is already booked in for repairs.  “It’s going to JR Industries to get a new rear clip put on it.”  Congratulations to the Chilly Willy 150 winner Preston Peltier from Johnston, Colorado.  Johnston becomes the first two-time winner of this event. Team NPP would like to congratulate fellow British Columbia driver Dave Smith.  The Victoria, BC finish 14th at Tucson Speedway on Sunday afternoon.  The 2022 Tucson Speedway Season opener is scheduled for Saturday, March 12th.
