TEAM NPP TRIO
EDMONTON, AB – Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. is flying its logo on three different race cars in three different ‘short track’ classes for the very first time. Team NPP bolstered its racing ranks last weekend when Wade Fleming returned to the sport of Sprint Car racing after a near ten-year absence. The eight-time Edmonton track champion joins veteran Super Late Model competitor Darrell Midgley and Dirt Modified racer Lane Zerbin under the Team NPP banner. It did not take long for Fleming to shake off the cobwebs. At the ASA Sprint Car Series season opener in Edmonton, Alberta (May 26th), Fleming scored a Heat race win and a 9th place finish in the Feature. It was back in 1997 that Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. first appeared on the Ardrossan, Alberta drivers #7 Sprint Car. Six of Fleming’s eight track championships were won flying the NPP colors.
Even after a decade away from competition, Fleming still leads all Sprint Car drivers at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway with 49 Feature wins (since 1991). Darrell Midgley meanwhile is coming off an 8th place finish in a Super Late Model race at Arizona’s Tucson Speedway back in March. The Sidney, British Columbia driver has been the pilot of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./Alien Race Cars #81 Dodge since 2003. Midgley, the promoter of Western Speedway in Victoria, British Columbia, is also a three-time NPP Late Model Series Champion. The Sidney, BC driver will be racing at South Sound Speedway in Rochester, Washington on July 3rd.
Lane Zerbin is the newest Team NPP competitor. The Victoria, BC driver made his Dirt Modified debut back in 2015 at Grays Harbor Raceway. Zerbin has registered 4 Feature wins south of the border since then. As of June 1st, Zerbin has not competed in any events in 2018. The Modified that he visited victory lane with was recently sold.
A brand new Dirt Modified is close to completion at the Alien Race Cars shop on Vancouver Island. Zerbin will be focusing his attention on upcoming race dates at Grays Harbor Washington over the coming months. Zerbin’s first race of 2018 is tentatively scheduled for June 16th pending completion of the new Team NPP Modified.

UPDATE: Lane Zerbin couldn’t wait for his brand new Team NPP Modified to be completed. The Victoria, British Columbia driver filled in for fellow British Columbia driver Graham Cook at Grays Harbor Raceway on the weekend (June 2nd). 23 Modifieds were on the property. Zerbin finished second in his heat race. The driver of the C Force Marine/Alien Race Cars #75 started the Feature in position 5. Drop of the green and Zerbin would fall back several spots but remained in the top 10 the entire race. Dry slick track conditions meant patience behind the wheel. Zerbin would fight back and finish 3rd in the Feature in Elma, Washington.
