SANGUDO, AB – Kevin Wheeler continued his season-long hot streak Saturday afternoon at Sangudo Speedway. The Whitecourt, Alberta driver got by Edson, Alberta’s Ken Clark with just five laps to go and drove to his 5th Feature event victory of 2013. “This has definitely been our year,” exclaims the 2013 NPP Series Champion, “the day was perfect, the track was perfect. Very clean racing from everyone here today.”

The Feature event, dominated by Ken Clark, was slowed by just one caution flag. “Ken had a huge lead on everyone. The race was his if the yellow didn’t come out.” The only caution flag flew with seven laps remaining as Clark had built a four second lead over the rest of the field. With five laps remaining, Wheeler managed to get by Clark down the back straight. “This class is crazy hard but everything has clicked for us this year”, adds Wheeler, “Mike and Lee, my pit crew, have been working hard on setups. It’s now paying off.”

Ken Clark led the most laps in the Feature and finished second in Sangudo. “This is the best performance we’ve had in a few seasons,” says Clark, “Wheeler was a little faster coming out of the corners. All in all though it was a pretty good day.” Clark missed his first Heat race due to starter problems. “Sangudo is always a good place to come and race. Always a good atmosphere here. The track today was very smooth.” Clark raced his Street Stock at Sangudo Speedway back in the early 1990’s when the track first opened. Whitecourt, Alberta’s Wayne Wheeler finished on the podium for the second consecutive Feature. “We had a blast here today,” says the 2013 NPP Series Rookie of the Year, “we had a fast car for the main but not quite quick enough [to win it] but we got third spot and that was awesome”. Earlier Heat race wins went to Kevin and Wayne Wheeler. Saturday’s event was the first official appearance of the NPP Late Model Series at Sangudo Speedway since August of 2001.
