SEASON CELEBRATION
EDMONTON, AB. – The ‘home track’ of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series held their annual season championship banquet Saturday night. Racing suits and helmets were replaced by ties, suit jackets, dresses and polished shoes. Oval and IHRA Drag competitors gathered under one roof as Castrol Raceway officials handed out the hardware at the River Cree Resort in Edmonton’s west end. It was a LUCAS OIL sweep of the top three positions in the 2009 NPP Late Model Series Championship points chase. Sidney, British Columbia’s Darrell Midgley was all smiles as he accepted his Championship trophy. Midgley had two wins in 2009. The Lucas Oil #14 Dodge finished 5th or better, in Feature events, 10 times in 2009. For the second year in a row the driver with the most Feature wins did not win the NPP Series championship. Campbell River BC’s Jason Beaulieu had four feature wins in the Lucas Oil #46 Dodge and finished second in the NPP Series points chase. Due to work commitments in his home province, Beaulieu (2007 Champion) was unable to attend this year’s championship banquet in Edmonton. Edson, Alberta’s Dwight Kennedy placed third in standings in his #81 Lucas Oil Dodge. It’s the fourth year in a row that the 2006 NPP Series Champion wrapped up a season with a podium finish. For the second year in a row, a Southern Alberta driver won the NPP Series Rookie of the Year. Blair Snow, a veteran pavement racer from Calgary, was top newcomer to the NPP Series in 2009.
NOTE: The 2009 NPP Series Champion and the NPP Series TOP 5 will be acknowledged in a unique way during the long off-season. Special decals have been printed and will soon be on the back window of the Official NPP Series Pace Car.
