SANGUDO CALLING

EDMONTON, AB – Although the chase for the 2013 Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series Championship ended on the September long weekend in Saskatchewan, many race teams were not quite ready to park their cars until May of 2014. Thanks to one Northern Alberta race track, NPP Late Model Series drivers have another opportunity to go for the checkered flag.

LARRY SIMPSON AND DWIGHT KENNEDY BATTLE IN SANGUDO 13 YEARS AGO

“The NPP Late Model Series will be returning to Sangudo Speedway for the first time since 2001,” says NPP Series announcer Gord Craig, “track officials [in Sangudo] contacted the NPP Series a few weeks ago and invited us to take part in their season championship weekend.” Some of the top drivers from the NPP Series have already indicated they will be at this NPP Series exhibition race on Saturday, September 21st including newly crowned season champion Kevin Wheeler.

WHEELER BROTHERS IN SANGUDO AT 2013 CANADA DAY LONG WEEKEND EVENT

“Kevin and his brother Wayne could have a bit of an advantage in Sangudo,” admits Craig, “when we lost our Canada Day long weekend race in Drumheller due to the Southern Alberta floods, the Wheeler brothers brought out their cars to Sangudo Speedway for a test and tune session.” Craig says the extra track time proved invaluable to both drivers. “It may be a coincidence but the two drivers that tested in Sangudo back in July ended up being our Season Champion [Kevin] and our Rookie of the Year [Wayne].” Kevin Wheeler is just the second driver in NPP Series history to win back to back season championships. Wayne Wheeler is the highest finishing rookie driver since the 2008 season.
