ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGHS & LOWS
VALEMOUNT, BC – A strong race weekend allowed Team NPP’s Josh Shuflada to take over the points lead in the Super Stock class at Rocky Mountain Speedway. The Edson, Alberta driver finished 2nd in Saturdays Feature and took home the checkered flag in Sunday’s big race. “The car is working very well,” says the Edson, Alberta driver, “we set it up on the scales properly and definitely got the right gearing now.” A total of 14 Super Stock competitors were in the pits to kick-off the SS Bushings Invitational weekend. “A very tough field of cars.” In the preliminary races, Shuflada won the Saturday and Sunday Trophy dashes in the Northern Provincial Pipelines/RCE #81 Dodge. He finished 3rd and registered a win in his weekend Heats. “Feels pretty good how we ran.”

The Super Stock class saw a scary crash in Saturday’s race action. The right rear wheel and axle tube of Greg Sorenson’s #41 Super Stock came off and ended up underneath his race car causing the car to flip wildly going into turn one. Shuflada was following Sorenson into the corner when it happened. “It was a terrible thing to see. I had a front row seat. I’m pretty sure it was two or three barrel rolls. It happened so fast.” Fortunately, Sorenson’s car landed on its wheels. “I turned my car sideways and slid into him. I was screaming at him from my car asking if he was ok.” In front of hushed spectators, track crews rushed to the scene and removed Sorenson from his crumpled race car. Sorenson was alert but still taken to hospital for observation. The severity of the crash impacted competitors in all the classes for the remainder of the race weekend. For Shuflada he replayed the crash in his mind several times when back on the track. “I was right there. Scariest crash I’ve seen. When I was racing Sunday I thought about Greg going into turn one several times. He’s a great competitor. Want to see him back at the track real soon.” Sorenson is the current season point leader at Clearwater Speedway.
