RETURN TO RIMBEY
EDMONTON, AB – The Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series has released four more race dates for its upcoming 2018 race season. NPP Series announcer Gord Craig says two of the most important dates on any race schedule will be held at the same track. “The season opening and season championship weekends will both be competed in Rimbey this year. I know that there are a lot of drivers that can’t wait to put in some laps at this track again.”
The 2018 race season will begin at Central Alberta Raceways on Friday and Saturday night May 25th & 26th. “We’ve always had a special connection with this track,” adds Craig, “we were the first racing series to compete at this facility when it first opened back in 2005.” The crowning of the 2018 season champion will also take place in Rimbey. “The race season will conclude Saturday and Sunday September 15th and 16th.” Eight different drivers have won a Feature event at Central Alberta Raceways in 14 NPP Series appearances. It was July 30th, 2005 when NPP Late Model Series founder Dwight Kennedy won the first ever Central Alberta Raceways Feature event on its brand new 3/8 mile oval. Shawn Kennedy (Dwights son) won the last NPP Series Feature event competed in Rimbey on September 25th, 2016.
Three-time NPP Series champion Darrell Midgley leads all drivers with five Feature event wins at Central Alberta Raceways. The Sidney, British Columbia driver had two trips to victory lane in Rimbey in 2016. The 2018 race season starts in two months. NPP Series officials are still hopeful they will be able to secure at least two race dates at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway for the upcoming season. Race dates at Sangudo Speedway in Sangudo, Alberta are also being discussed.
