ONE MONTH TILL VROOM
EDMONTON, AB – The 2014 race season of the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series is less than a month away. For the fifth consecutive year, Castrol Raceway will host the season opening points race of the NPP Late Model Series. NPP Series announcer Gord Craig is looking forward to the drop of the green flag on May 10th. “This is the sixteenth consecutive season that we have scheduled race events in Edmonton. This will be the ninth time we’ve held our season opening race in the big city.”
Only two other race classes have had longer consecutive appearance streaks at Castrol Raceway. “The open wheel ‘360’ Sprint Cars have competed in Edmonton since the track opened in 1991. The Sportsman Sprint cars [Extreme Sprint Series] are celebrating their twentieth consecutive race season in Edmonton this year.” The NPP Late Model made its Edmonton debut in the summer of 1999. Central Alberta Raceways in Rimbey, where the NPP Series will crown its champion in September, celebrates the 10th anniversary of their oval track in 2014. “The NPP Late Model Series was the first race class to compete on their oval track back in 2005. We are competing in Rimbey three-times this year including our Season Championship race weekend in September.”
The NPP Late Model Series also returns to Sangudo Speedway for a two-day show on the Canada Day long weekend. If the weather permits, NPP Late Model Series drivers could be on the track the end of April. Castrol Raceway has an ‘open’ test ‘n’ tune scheduled for Saturday, April 26th.
