OFF-SEASON DRAGS ON
EDMONTON, AB – The halfway point of the long off-season passed without major fanfare on Monday, January 12th. Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series announcer Gord Craig says the hard part is over. “It’s now less than 110 days till test ‘n’ tune in Edmonton. It sounds like a long time but if you think about it, the month of February is just two weeks away. It’s officially spring in about 60 days.” NPP Series officials continue working on the 2015 tentative schedule and hope to have a completed schedule released by the end of the month. “Back in November we submitted our race date request list [to Edmonton track officials]. We were hoping to have at least one appearance a month in Edmonton for the 2015 race season.”
Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway celebrates its 25th consecutive season of Oval racing in 2015. The NPP Late Model made its debut in Edmonton at the 1999 Gold Cup as the support class to the open wheel Sprint Cars. Craig indicates that the NPP Series will once again travel to several racetracks in 2015. “We are a touring Series. Central Alberta Raceways in Rimbey will see the NPP Series road show this year. We hope to race at Sangudo Speedway this year as well.” Craig says Southern Alberta is back on the radar once again for 2015. “We tried to schedule a race at Dinosaur Downs Speedway in Drumheller in 2014 but unfortunately the dates didn’t work out. The goal right now is to have a two-day points race in Southern Alberta this year.” The last time the NPP Late Model Series competed in Southern Alberta was September 3 & 4, 2011 at Bridge County Raceway in Lethbridge.
