DRAYTON VALLEY, AB – Race teams have the opportunity to be on the oval track in less than thirty days. Drayton Valley Speedway opens its doors to all competitors for a spring test and tune on Saturday, April 29th. “We’re counting down the days,” exclaims track president Brandon Murray, “really looking forward to this year.” Murray and his crew brought the race facility back to life in 2016. “We definitely learned a lot last year. This track (formerly Rapid Fire Motorsports Park) was closed for ten years.” Drayton Valley Speedway hosted 14 race dates last year and has expanded its race schedule in 2017.

“We are in this for the long haul. Last year we got the track up and running. This year we’ve added some extra race dates. Several facility improvements are in the works as well.” Ironically the Drayton Valley Speedway test and tune later this month is not the first event of the 2017 season. “We’ve held two events here already this year.” Back in February Murray carved out a slalom course for race teams to navigate. “It was a bit of an experiment but for the most part it worked. It was a very sloppy at times. The teams that came out had a lot of fun. If we do this event again we’ll probably change the time of year.”

Right now at Drayton Valley Speedway there is a lot of standing water in the pit area from snow melt. The oval track itself is in very good shape. “If it weren’t for the pits, we probably could have cars on the track next weekend. The facility is drying out nicely.” The Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series races at Drayton Valley Speedway in August. The NPP Series last competed in Drayton Valley back in 2006.
