In 2015 a brand new car entered the racing stable of Dwight Kennedy, owner of Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. in Edson, Alberta.  “I’ve sponsored several race teams over the years but I’ve really only owned stock cars [dirt and pavement].  I’ve been a stock car guy since day one so this is a little bit different.”  Kennedy had Ted Zerbin at Alien Chassis build an open wheel Modified.  “The car was not for me to run,” explains Kennedy, “Ted’s son is driving it.”  Kennedy has yet to see his open wheel Modified compete in person.  “I’ve got pictures and that’s it.  I’ve been too busy [at work] to get to a track but I know that the car is in good hands.”  So far, 19 year old Lane Zerbin from Victoria, British Columbia, has run 7 events in his NPP #81 Modified.  All events have been run in Washington State.  In these events, Zerbin has had an average finish of 10.3 in his Rookie season.  The best Feature finish for the former go-cart racer was 5th at Skagit Speedway back on June 6th.  He made his official Modified debut one month earlier (May 9th) at Grays Harbor Raceway and finished 12th (out of 20 cars).

Just two weekends ago (July 24th/25th), Zerbin raced against some of the best open Wheel Modified competitors in the Pacific Northwest.  With more than 60 teams entered into the 16th annual Northwest Modified Nationals, Zerbin raced to a 15th place finish on Championship Saturday night.  The father and son team of Ted and Lane Zerbin are back in action on the September long weekend with three consecutive nights of racing in Washington State: September 5th and 6th at Skagit Speedway in Alger, Washington and September 7th at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.
