ENGINE ENGINE 81
VICTORIA, BC – Darrell Midgley and crew continue preparations for the upcoming fall and winter race season in the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd./Alien Race Cars #81 Dodge. “The cars are getting prepared,” says the Sidney, British Columbia driver, “we’ve been working on the cars almost non-stop.” Three cars will eventually be loaded onto the Team NPP hauler in October for the trip down to Tucson, Arizona. Before the cars are loaded, race engines will be installed into the vacant engine bays. Over the September long weekend, three refreshed power plants were delivered to the Team NPP west coast race shop in Langford, BC from AMS Engines in Edmonton, Alberta.
“I think these (Super Late Model) engines were originally built in 2008,” exclaims Midgley, “other than the maintenance we do on them after a race, (valve springs and oil changes) that’s all they’ve had done.” The veteran pavement racer admits the clock was ticking for these engines. “Everything has a shelf life and we were pushing things a bit.” The engines were sent to Edmonton for the big re-fresh. “They have just been excellent engines from Louie and AMS.” Midgley’s last race event was at South Sound Speedway in Rochester, Washington on July 3rd. He drove the #81 NPP Super Late Model to a 5th place finish. Midgley’s next schedule race is October 26th at Tucson Speedway in Arizona.
