EDMONTON RAINS OUT….. BRING ON THE ROCK!!
EDMONTON, AB – With a threatening sky, Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series race teams unloaded their race cars at Castrol Raceway late Friday afternoon. Just after 6 o’clock light rain began to fall at the track site. Unfortunately it didn’t stop.
With rain still falling, Castrol Raceway officials declared the event a rain out just past 7:30pm. (Rain stopped falling at 9:20pm) “This is the second consecutive Friday night race that has been cancelled in Edmonton because of the weather,” says NPP Series announcer Gord Craig, “the good news is that the weather is looking favorable for us Saturday night in Southern Alberta.” NPP Series race teams loaded up after the Friday night rain out. Many decided to immediately hit the road and drive the three and a half hours to Rocky Mountain Raceway Park south of Calgary.
“Racers are starting to get a little snarly due to a lack of racing,” adds Craig, “fans in Okotoks are in for a real good show Saturday night.”
NPP side note: A big thank-you to Castrol Raceway Oval director Doug Worsfold. Even when it appeared the light rain was letting up Friday night, he did not allow any race cars on the oval for a session of ‘desperate track packing’. Worsfold wanted a clear indication that weather conditions were going to dramatically improve. That never happened. If the chance of going racing was slim to none why make extra work for race teams. NPP teams will be very thankful for Worsfolds Friday night’s decision when they unload their ‘clean’ race cars in Okotoks Saturday afternoon.
