CANADA 200 TIME
VICTORIA, BC – The countdown is on for Western Canada’s longest running and premier Late Model event. The 2025 Shockwave Reg Midgley Canada 200 runs Saturday and Sunday (August 23/24) at Saratoga Speedway on Vancouver Island. Darrell Midgley race car is ready to go. Midgley, a two-time Canada 200 winner (1998 and 1999) led 24-laps at last year’s race. He was forced to retire from the race with under 50-laps to go due to fuel spilling out of his race car. The Team NPP driver ended up finishing 13th. “It was disappointing for sure but we ready to go this weekend.” Midgley and crew have been working long hours at the shop on the Northern Provincial Pipelines #81 Dodge. “This is our only Canadian start so we’ve put more preparation into it this year.” Midgley says competing in the Canada 200 is always special. “This race really is part of my life. I don’t think it matters what track it’s at. It’s my dad’s race. It’s definitely got meaning to it for me personally and my family.”

Reg Midgley, Darrell’s father, was instrumental in the creation of this race back in 1972 when it was campaigned at Western Speedway. Black Rock, British Columbia’s Saratoga Speedway inherited the Canada 200 in 2023 after the closure of Western Speedway (1966-2022). “Looks like there is going to be 22 cars entered,” exclaims Midgley, “I think lap traffic is going to be a big part in this race (on Sunday).” Midgley is looking forward to the big race. “I’m probably having the most fun (racing) right now. There is not the pressure there used to be. When you get older the expectations get lower.” Dwight Kennedy, the owner of Northern Provincial Pipelines in Edson, Alberta and Team NPP will be at Saratoga Speedway. “He’s been coming to a lot of the races lately. Before, we hardly ever saw Dwight. He was so busy running his business. He couldn’t get away.” Kennedy is also adding extra prize money to the Reg Midgley Canada 200 race which already has a $30,000 prize purse ($5,000 to win). NPP bonuses of $500 will go to the driver leading Lap 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, 160, 180 and 190 for a total of $5,000. Late Model drivers will qualifying for the Reg Midgley Canada 200 Saturday evening. The big race goes Sunday afternoon.
