CALIFORNIA RACIN

ROSEVILLE, CA – Following up his 5th place finish March 19th at Madera Speedway in Madera, California, Canada’s Darrell Midgley grabbed a 6th place finish Saturday night at All American Speedway in Roseville, California. “We were so good as a team Saturday night,” exclaims the Sidney, British Columbia driver, “the car was really good as well.” Midgley qualified 13th for the 100 lap race. Unfortunately for Midgley, the Northern Provincial Pipelines Ltd. #81 Dodge had a tire go down just a few laps into the race. “We got a flat tire on Lap 5 after running over something on the track. We didn’t have any new tires left so we put on a used tire from the last race and just hoped for the best.” Despite the early race setback, Midgley moved into the top 10 before the race was 25 Laps old. On Lap 28 Midlgey moved up to eighth. This was a position Midgley would occupy to just past the halfway point.

“We made it work [with the used tire]. The car was sure a handful by the end of the race because of the extra worn tires.” From Lap 55 to 75, Midgley and local racer John Moore battled hard for position. Midgley would get by the California driver with 25 laps remaining to finish in the number six position. The 6th place finish earned the lone Canadian in the field, the hard charger award. Midgley currently sits tied for fourth in the Pacific Challenge Series points race, just 10 points out of top spot, but that’s as high as he will get in the point standings. “I have to focus on the races at home now,” admits Midgley, “we have a track to run. We’re opening up this weekend.” Midgley is the promoter of Western Speedway in Victoria, British Columbia and is also the two-time and the defending season champion of the Alberta based Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series. “Had fun racing in the States. Would like to do more but it’s just too far away to run. It would be quite the commute.” The next race of the 12 event PCS schedule is May 7th at Ukiah Speedway in Ukiah, California. The 2016 season opener for Western Speedway is this Friday and Saturday night (April 22 & 23). The 2016 season opener for the Northern Provincial Pipelines Late Model Series is May 28th at Edmonton’s Castrol Raceway.
