CALIFORNIA CALLING
EUREKA, CA – Darrell Midgley and Team Northern Provincial Pipelines head to the California Coast the final weekend of April. Historic Redwood Acres Raceway kick off their 2023 season with the Rhododendron 100 featuring Super Late Models. Team NPP last competed at the Eureka, California facility in September 2007. Darrell Midgley finished 4th. “A lot of good memories,” exclaims Midgley, “made a lot of friends there throughout the years. I’m sure there will be some old faces we’ll see again.”
Midgley has 4-wins and 6 top-five finishes in 18 appearances dating back to 1990. Midgley also drove an open wheel Modified to victory lane at Redwood Acres Raceway in 1993. “It’s been a pretty good place for us.” His last win at Redwood Acres Raceway came at the 2004 season opener. Midgley’s just hoping for a good showing on the 3/8 mile paved oval track. “I’m just looking for a solid weekend and get some results. We want to be competitive. With the stuff we have and the support we have, we should be running up front.”
Midgley is still a little sour at his performance at Tucson Speedway. “We had a really disappointing winter in Arizona,” sighs the Sidney, British Columbia driver, “we don’t know what’s wrong (with the car). It’s not from lack of effort.” Midgley had an average Feature finish of 10th in 6 Feature events competed at Tucson Speedway. To help sort out the Team NPP Super Late Model, Midgley has called on veteran race car builder Chuck Carruthers to lend a hand in California. “He’s going to be at Eureka and help us out at the track. We’ve brought him in to help us out before.” Darrell Midgley will make his first laps at the Eureka track in almost 16-years on Friday afternoon during an open practice session in his Team NPP #81 Dodge. The 2nd annual Rhododendron 100 goes Saturday evening.
