BACK IN THE RACING SADDLE AGAIN

BURLINGTON, WA – Decent finishes for Team NPP Modified driver Lane Zerbin after being away from the track for almost one-full calendar year.  The Victoria, British Columbia had three consecutive races circled on the calendar in Washington State.  Zerbin finished 4th Saturday night (June 17th) at Skagit Speedway.  Zerbin settled for a 13th place finish Sunday night (June 18th) at Grays Harbor Raceway after running in the top-10 for most of the Feature.  He was hoping for another strong outing Tuesday night (June 20th) back at Skagit Speedway, unfortunately the race was rained out. Heading home to Vancouver Island with his father (Ted), Lane Zerbin had time to reflect on his recent efforts.  “It felt good just to drive again,” admits Zerbin, “felt like normal again but I was a little rusty.”  There were 24 IMCA Modifieds in the pits Saturday night at Skagit Speedway.  The odds were stacked against Zerbin with it being his first race of the season.  “With IMCA if you have no points you start at the back in your Heat.”  After finishing 5th in his Heat, Zerbin was placed near the back of the pack for the Feature.  “I started 23rd out of 24th.”  Zerbin indicates he had some racing luck on his side Saturday night.  “I missed a lot of big wrecks.  There were about three red flags.  It was probably the longest race I’ve ever been a part of.”    The Saturday night 25-lap Feature took almost 1-hour to complete.  Zerbin finished 4th.  “The guys that finished in front of me are all good guys.”  Victoria BC’s Geoff Morris won the Feature.

#81 ZERBIN AVOIDED PLENTY OF CARNAGE AT SKAGIT SPEEDWAY SATURDAY NIGHT

Less than 24-hours later Zerbin was competing at Grays Harbor Raceway. “Quite honestly it was probably one of the better tracks I’ve ever seen in Elma.”  Zerbin once again finished 5th in his Heat race.  In the Feature Zerbin started in the 10th position and quickly gained spots on the fast track.  “You could make the top work if you really needed too and you could run the bottom as well.”  Nearing the half-way point of the Feature Zerbin’s Modified developed a bad vibration.  “I was running 6th or 7th and was trying to run the cushion in 1 and 2 and hit the cushion pretty hard and broke the mud cover off and packed the right rear wheel with mud.”  Zerbin lost a couple spots due to severe vibration.  “Then with 2-laps to go I clipped an infield tire with the left front so I was three wheelin it the final few laps.”  Zerbin crossed the finish line in 13th.  “I would have been a lot happier if it was another top-5 but we’ll take our blows.  If that’s our worst finish this year that’s not too bad.”  Team NPP’s Zerbin next race is back at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington on Saturday, July 1st.
